I remember when I was little & still in elementary school, my best friend’s parents had an Astro Van with OEM Chevrolet Astro Van Rims – it was like that dark green color.
This van with factory Chevrolet wheels is categorized as a rear-wheel drive mid-sized van that was actually pretty popular in the 90s – or that’s what it looked like. It had the same platform as the GMC Safari; but it seemed to be different at the same time.
In 1996, the IIHS (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety) gave the Astro Van a poor rating because of its appearances; they said is was a horrifying display of structural failure. In 2007, like more than a decade later, the IIHS made a report that said in honest real life situations, the 2001-2004 Astro with 2003 Chevrolet Astro Van rims had the least number of driver that were killed of all passenger vehicles here in the United States – I’m sure Chevy kind of just had that chance to say, “HA!”. Of course the driver’s actual habits and usage of the vehicle might have made a difference to this result.
Off to visit my best friend,
