Rims Throughout History

The history of the wheel or rim seems to date back to about 3500 years before Christ where early Europeans used wheels or rims for things like wagons, Chariots, Pottery wheels and even on children’s toys. The earliest uses of the wheel where made out of solid wood or solid stone but soon evolved to what it is today, the use of many different alloy metals that are strong and lightweight at the same time. The use of spokes on a wheel came into use because of the lightweight nature of the metals, and on today’s cars and trucks, the spokes allow the brakes to remain at a cooler temperture as you drive down the road. The lighter weight alloys truly helped to improve gas milage besides being a much stronger and safer wheel.
