The HS is the platform that Lexus created exclusively for hybrid production and has been manufacturing the HS 250h since 2009 for the 2010 model year. A four door sedan with front wheel drive, the HS has become Lexus' entry level compact sedan and derives its name from the abbreviated Hybrid (sometimes said to stand for Harmonious, to reflect the vehicle's relationship to nature) Sport, HS, along with its engine specifications. In the case of the 250h, the straight four cylinder engine had a 2.4L displacement (where the 250 comes from), along with the h to designate hybrid. The HS has a continuously variable transmission to help boost its already amazing fuel economy of 35 mpg, highway or city. Sales in the US prompted Lexus to stop sales in the United States while continuing to sell the vehicle in Japan.
