Do I have 4WD or AWD?

February 27th, 2010

I can honestly say that it’s pretty confusing. I personally have a Toyota 4Runner and when I bought it, they asked if I knew how to handle the 4WD (4 Wheel Drive). After like 1 minute of silence, I realized that they were talking to me so I just replied, “Well yeah, it has 4 wheels &  I passed my driving test-so of course I know how to drive.” After that response, you can tell that they were going to have a hard time explaining it to me. So here’s what they told me:

4WD is a method that gives power to all four original wheels, whether it’s on a rough terrain for those adventures of yours, or just simply on the street.

AWD, or all-wheel drive, is essentially the same as 4WD, but they are less handy when it comes to off-roading. AWD is mainly for getting you from one place to another.

4WD & AWD are options available with Honda CR-V Wheels , Toyota RAV4 Rims , Jeep Grand Cherokee Wheels , and many more.

I’m still learning more about all of these options, but hopefully this sheds some light on your confusion.
