The BMW M6 has been derived from the E24, E63/E64, and F12/F13 developments (or Entwicklungsmummren which means something similar in German and is where the E in the E series comes from, it is speculated that the only reason F was chosen was its auspicious alphabetical placement) as speciality high performance versions which is why the M stands for Motorsport. Engines that have been offered on the M6 include a 3.5L straight six cylinder engine, a 5.0L V10 engine, and a 4.4 twin turbocharged V8 engine is currently offered on the M6 that is still in production today as a two door coupe or two door convertible

Wheels that have been available on the M6 total six different rims. On the first M6 there was the 415mm silver finished, diamond spoked alloy rim, the remaining rims were all measured in the standard system. They included a 17" alloy rim with 5 spokes finished in silver, a 18" alloy wheel with silver finish and 5 doubles spokes, and two 19" alloy rims both with 10 spokes with polished or hyper silver finsih.
