In 1996 the Plymouth division of Chrysler began production of the Breeze simultaneously with two identical cars that would be sold by Plymouth's sister companies Chrysler and Dodge as the Cirrus and Stratus, respectively. These three cars have been referred to as the "cloud cars" because of their names and were produced on Chrysler's JA platform that was exclusively utilized for these three cars. Powered by either a 2.4L or a 2.0L straight four cylinder engine- both of which were gasoline and paired to either a five speed manual or four speed automatic transmission- the Breeze was part of the midsize class and had front wheel drive. The Breeze was discontinued in 2000 during Plymouth's phaseout, although its identical sisters remained in production for a few years longer.

Factory Plymouth Breeze rims were exclusively 14" steel rims and had black or painted finish with 8, 10, or 20 spokes.
